There have been rumors circulating for some time about presidential candidate John McCain's VP choice. Due to recent public outings with Rudy Giuliani and the recent media hype over Barack Obama visiting Iraq, it might be perfect timing for McCain to reveal his running mate as vice president. Mark Salter, a senior aide to the McCain campaign, says "I’m not denying, I’m not confirming." He did say staffers have been instructed not to talk about the veepstakes and he would be keeping quiet. “I got a stern talking to last time I went down that road.” McCain and Giuliani attended a baseball game at Yankee stadium together, this started the McCain-Giuliani speculation again. When asked about the possibility of being on the ticket with with McCain, Giuliani responded "You hear all kinds of stuff, but I'm not thinking about anything but helping to get him elected," Giuliani said. "Beyond the fact that he's the candidate of my party, he's a very good friend," according to DEVLIN BARRETT of the A.P.
I was a Giuliani supporter before he dropped out of the Republican race. I still think he would have been better choice for President, but I do not think he is a good choice for McCain. McCain needs a more conservative running mate to gain solid support from the far right. I also believe McCain will do well to pick a younger vice president, at least in appearance, to help ease concerns over his age. In the best interest of keeping Obama from "raining destruction" on Americas economy, foreign policy, and whatever else he can ("change") it is best to let Rudy Giuliani sit this one out. Some other candidates for the VP position are Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Mitt Romney, and Condoleezza Rice. These five choices are the vice presidential candidates I believe to be the most likely choices, including Rudy G. You can see more possible candidates and polling data for the question "Who should John McCain pick as running mate be," HERE as well as Democratic running mate projections. We will know who McCain picks to run as Vice President on his ticket soon, it will be interesting to see when Barack Obama follows suit and picks Hillary Clinton.

I honestly had not given any thought to the Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin until you asked me this question, and I should have. I did a little searching on Gov. Palin and I agree with you from what I have read thus far. I think she is a better choice then Rudy G, because she would give a younger feel to the ticket, appeal to women and "visually unimpaired heterosexual men," as one news article put it. From the little bit of research I did this morning, I am willing to say Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are the two I favor. I do like Giuliani too, but I just think he is too similar to McCain. McCain needs someone who will bring more votes with them, he already has most of the votes Rudy would bring. I own the domain vprudy.com , so I must have thought he was a good choice at some point.
I'm always glad to turn someone on to Sarah Palin. :)
Rudy does not seem to think he is on the short list: http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/07/rudy_giuliani_not_on_the_short_2.html
I always though that Rice would be the better choice, because it would take away the "black" factor from Obama, and add the "women" factor in. Also, people seem to like her too. But, she said she wouldn't do it.
Jindal is another favorite, as he is a "young and fresh" "change" like Obama.
Palin is an excellent choice for McCain too, and would grab the "women" factor too.
Romney was my second pick for McCain, mainly because of the economic presence he would bring to the campaign, but it seems the above are slightly ahead in the race.
Huckabee would of been another good one, and would help more of the conservative base become happier on the choice in a candidate.
Giuliani I think wouldn't of been a bad choice, but just not the best choice. He is America's Mayor, and he is a good politician. I just think he is too much like McCain, and really wouldn't bring that much of a difference to the table. But you never know.
I figured Giuliani was all but out of the running mate debacle, though this could be a ploy to stir up more media attention, who knows. Time.com reports in the article "Keys to McCain's VP Pick" that the campaign has dropped the following hints:
1.The campaign is looking for a running mate who will be relatively youthful.
2.The chosen running mate is unlikely to offend the social/fiscal conservative base of the Republican party.
3.McCain wants a thorough process to ensure a running mate who is well prepared.
This rules out Rudy. We may not know who his running mate will be for some time, why waste a chance at more media coverage when you are already getting so much from VP speculations. Also his wife and Romney are not around this week, and will not be back for a few days. Would he announce a running mate without her? Thanks for the interesting comments!
It will probably be Jindal, Palin, or Romney. But, as speculated by many, the talks are coming this week to get Obama off the media because of his tour of other countries, and it seems to be working a little bit right now.
